This project in San Bernardino County involved regrading the median on Interstate 40, along with the installation of guardrail and repairs to the Desert Tortoise fence. The goal was to improve safety across a 25-mile stretch of the I-40 through the Mojave Desert.
The main challenge was balancing the regrading work with embankment fill, as the historical data underestimated soil shrinkage in the area. Through weekly partnering sessions, the team identified the issue early, collaborated on a new approach, and completed the project under budget.
